IDAHO

THE PALMS EP (CAROLINE)

If one were so inclined, one could slag this band off as trying to sound too much like Codiene, but not many bands sound like Codiene and none of those that do are this worthy. This covers much of the similar emotional territory painting bleakish empty pictures of vanished dreams in “Gone”, while “Creep” (unfortunate title, considering Radiohead) plods along more self-confidently. Both “Fall Around” and “You Are There” explore a tuneful flatness in tone while the later stands out for vocalist Jeff Martins raspy vocalizing which takes it to another plane of reverie. These four songs take the listener back into the era when EP meant three or four good songs and no filler. It would be no mistake to expect even more opulent of an LP from Idaho in the near future.
