IDAHO: This Way Out (Quigley)

Following the departure of John Berry, Idaho is in effect, the work of Jeff Martin - ably assisted on this second album by a variety of guest musicians. Whilst the debut album “Year After Year’ dealt more specifically in a restrained wig out of rich narcotic haze, ‘This Way Out’ is a slightly more open wound. Jeff Martin’s guitar still drools out it’s syrupy riffs and there’s a melancholy throughout which is a hangover from the debut, but this seems a touch more direct. Drifting soundscapes that bathe you in a luxurious fountain of restraint and drag tunes mixed with the more direct assaults of ‘Fuel’ and ‘Crawling Out’ and the ultimate haunting deliverance of ‘Sweep’. 6
