THE THICK AND THE THIN
(Martin and Seta)

traces of glory
giving you the life you hold
back the stories
you know they're bouncing off your head
aches and pains now
for the will to understand
where it's going
and beyond

love the body
take it home before you sink
back in times so thick

with what you remember
the only thing you don't forget
you are forgiven
by the stars

love the body
take it home before you sink
back in times so thin

trace the glory
set your soul astray
trace the glory
because you know that there is nothing wrong with it

A "true collaboration" between Jeff Martin and Dan Seta, THE THICK AND THE THIN opens The Forbidden E.P. with a levity that was not heard on 1996's Three Sheets to the Wind. Quickly, though, the song takes an unexpected turn as the second guitar enters, coloring the song with a strange and upset dissonance. The song takes another twist when the vocal line moves into a quiet and wordless melody. Then the guitar makes its final diversion and everything comes together just shy of three minutes.
